About this book
The Congo Rovers is a story of the slave squadron by Harry Collingwood. A letter from Captain Vernon, appointed to the command of the sloop-of-war Daphne, says he is in a position to fulfil a promise of some standing to his friend Dr Hawkesley by receiving the doctor's son on board.
Fitz-Johnes extends his hand and exclaims, "Give me your hand, Hawkesley. I respect you, sir; I esteem you; and I forgive you all." Lord Tomnoddy stands with his back turned, his face buried in his pocket-handkerchief and his shoulders heaving convulsively. Smellie recounts the adventures from the moment of leaving the Daphne. A perfect tornado bursts upon those aboard, the ship is taken flat aback, and over she goes.
