About this book
The Continental Dragoon is described as A Love Story of Philipse Manor-House in 1778, by Robert Neilson Stephens. An illustration caption reads Take that rebel alive! ordered Colden. Major John Colden, being not more than twenty-seven years old, wears a civilian's cloak or outer coat over the uniform of his rank and corps, hiding his sword and pistol.
Miss Elizabeth is the most imperious, though not the oldest, daughter of Colonel Frederick Philipse, and her scholarly father christened her horse Cato. A man ceases to feel ashamed of having deceived Elizabeth, as he stops remembering the conquered, abashed look her face had last worn. The text says the house itself remains well preserved, for which all honor to the town of Yonkers.
