The Dore Bible Illustrations

The Doré Bible Illustrations collects the great series of engravings Gustave Doré (1832-1883) made for the Bible, first published in Tours in 1866 and reprinted endlessly across Europe and America. Doré’s plates, the Creation, the Deluge, Babel, the agonies of the prophets and the Passion, fixed the visual imagination of scripture for generations and still shape how films stage the Old Testament. The French illustrator produced celebrated editions of Dante, Cervantes, and Milton, but the Bible plates remain his most reproduced work. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
