The Duché Letter to General Washington reprints one of the strangest documents of the American Revolution. Jacob Duché (1737-1798), the Philadelphia clergyman who had opened the First Continental Congress with prayer, wrote to Washington in October 1777 urging him to abandon the cause and seek peace with Britain. Washington forwarded the letter to Congress, Duché fled into exile as a loyalist, and the letter has fascinated students of revolutionary loyalty ever since. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
