About this book
The Expositor's Bible: The Book of Numbers examines the difficulty of reconciling offerings of fine flour with an account of life in the wilderness without bread or flour. The discussion says that the assertion about the offerings is repeated no fewer than twelve times. The text asks whether the historians held to records they regarded as authentic despite apparently insuperable difficulties.
The commentary regards the institution of the Aaronic priesthood as indispensable to the security of religion and to the brotherhood of the tribes in the high sense for which the tribes were made a nation. The commentary calls that institution a confession that Israel was not spiritual and was not the holy congregation declared by Korah.
