The Fifth Son of the Shoemaker

Donald Corley is the author and illustrator of the book “The Fifth Son of the Shoemaker.” Lin Carter claims that although it is frequently referred to as a novel, it is actually “a volume of short stories under the guise of a novel.” Robert M. McBride released the book for the first time in hardback in New York in September 1930.

The narrative centers on a Russian family that emigrated to New York from Moscow and is a hereditary shoemaker family. It chronicles their ascent from poverty to affluence, starting with their modest origins in an East Side cellar and continuing with their global travels.
