The Forest Exiles is an 1855 adventure novel by Captain Thomas Mayne Reid (1818-1883), the Irish-born writer whose tales of the American frontier and exotic wilds thrilled Victorian boys and influenced later adventure writers from Stevenson to the young Theodore Roosevelt. This story follows an exiled family through the perils of the South American forests, packed with natural history and danger. Reid’s energetic adventure fiction was enormously popular across Europe.
