About this book
Erin Gruwell’s “The Freedom Writers Diary” is a real-life narrative. It’s an anthology of essays penned by her students, known as the Freedom Writers. The book showcases the power of writing to bring about change, as it traces the journey of students labeled as “unteachable, at-risk” from Long Beach, California, who started expressing their emotions and experiences in diaries. The book has been adapted into a major film and a 20th-anniversary edition is now available.
