About this book
The Geologic Story of Arches National Park, by Stanley William Lohman, is a guide to the park's geology. The frontispiece identifies the rock at Balanced Rock as Slick Rock Member of Entrada Sandstone resting on the crinkly bedded Dewey Bridge Member of the Entrada. The account of visitor facilities describes three small dry campgrounds, each equipped with tables, fireplaces, garbage cans, and pit toilets.
The Colorado River forms the park's southeastern boundary for about 11 miles, from a highway bridge to a point about half a mile below the mouth of Salt Wash. The description of State Highway 128 follows a partly paved road along the southeast side of the river for about 30 miles to Dewey Bridge.
