About this book

Viktor and Liesel Landauer commission a modern house of glass, steel, and onyx on a Czechoslovak hillside. Their home offers a setting for private desires and tensions as war approaches and forces the family to leave. The house remains at the center of the novel as successive occupants bring changing political powers and personal histories through its rooms.
