The God Box

The novel “The God Box” by Alex Sanchez explores the relationship between spirituality and sexuality. The main character of the story is Paul, a senior in high school. He has been dating Angie since middle school. Paul starts to doubt his sexual orientation and personal convictions after Manuel the first out gay adolescent in their tiny town joins the school. The book explores the difficulties of being gay and religious as well as how biblical texts on homosexuality are interpreted.
