The Gray Nun

The Gray Nun is an English translation of a romance by Nataly von Eschstruth (1860-1939), the German writer whose sentimental court-and-society novels were enormously popular in Wilhelmine Germany. Her tales of love among officers, nobles, and theatre folk sold in huge editions and were dismissed by critics as exactly the comfort reading the public wanted.
