About this book
The Land of Deepening Shadow, Germany-at-War, is by D. Thomas Curtin. The contents list names, among others, chapters headed The Crime Against the Children, Pulpits of Hate, Puppet Professors, The Lie on the Film and The Idea Factory. The book says that the 2nd of September is Sedan Day, and that in 1914 it was celebrated as never before. The narrator arrived in "Unter den Linden" two hours before the procession was due but could not get anywhere near the broad central avenue.
The narrator thinks that Liebknecht will this time be beaten down, if he is not content to be shouted down. The book says that the spirit of "all for the Fatherland" is yielding to the spirit of self-preservation of the individual.
