The Love Letters of Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn

These seventeen surviving letters were written by King Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn during the late 1520s, while he pursued her and pressed for the annulment that would break England from Rome. Roughly half are in French, and together they show a monarch by turns tender, impatient, and lovestruck, marking his initials around her name. Historians prize the collection because Anne’s own replies are lost, leaving these pages as a rare direct window onto the courtship that reshaped a kingdom.
