About this book

A string of seemingly unconnected deaths along a busy London street sets this Golden Age puzzle in motion. It begins when James Tovey, a well-liked greengrocer, is killed, and soon another resident of Praed Street dies under equally strange circumstances. As fear spreads and the police struggle to find a pattern, the elderly herbalist Elmer Ludgrove and Tovey's daughter Ivy are drawn into the affair, while the coldly logical Dr. Lancelot Priestley turns his reasoning on what looks like a patient campaign of revenge. About the author

John Rhode

John Rhode was a pen name of Cecil John Charles Street (1884-1964), a prolific English author of Golden Age detective fiction. A former army officer, he created the armchair investigator Dr. Priestley and, writing separately as Miles Burton, produced well over a hundred mysteries.
