The Pilgrim’s Progress

John Bunyan wrote this Christian allegory in 1678, partly during his years in an English jail for preaching without a license, and it became one of the most widely read books in the language. It follows a man named Christian who flees the City of Destruction with a great burden on his back, searching for the Celestial City. His road runs through the Slough of Despond, Vanity Fair, the Valley of the Shadow of Death, and the dungeons of Giant Despair, where every place and person stands for some part of the soul’s struggle toward faith. Simple, vivid, and deeply felt, it turned Puritan doctrine into a gripping journey that readers of every background have followed. Free PDF and EPUB editions are available to read and download.
