Nell's life, however, drastically changes when the King's plan for the princess to marry the Prince of Castile is thwarted by the epidemic.

To trick Prince Pedro into marrying Nell, the Black Prince plots to turn her into a princess. Nell strives to get back to the King, but she has to avoid the Black Prince and the epidemic with the help of an oddball group of pals.

The Plague is a historical fantasy set during the fourteenth-century Black Death. Its narrator, Nell, is taken from poverty because she closely resembles Princess Joan, daughter of Edward III.
