The Poetical Works of Beattie, Blair, and Falconer is a one-volume edition of three eighteenth-century Scottish poets prepared by George Gilfillan (1813-1878), the Dundee minister and prolific Victorian literary editor and critic. Gilfillan edited a long series of British poets for the popular Library Edition of the British Poets in the 1850s, and gave the late Victorian reader access to many minor and forgotten figures. This volume brings together James Beattie (1735-1803), best remembered for The Minstrel; Robert Blair (1699-1746), author of the influential graveyard poem The Grave; and William Falconer (1732-1769), the merchant sailor who wrote The Shipwreck. Gilfillan supplies critical and biographical introductions to each poet in his characteristic warm Victorian prose style. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
