Thomas Gray

Thomas Gray (1716-1771) was an English poet and scholar who spent much of his life at Cambridge. Reserved and exacting, he published only a few poems, but his 'Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard' secured him lasting fame as one of the most admired poets of his century.
