The Presumption of Sex and Other Papers is an essay collection by Oscar Fay Adams (1855-1919), the Boston editor and man of letters. The title essay takes up the manners debate of the 1890s with a wry argument about the assumptions men and women make of one another, and the surrounding papers range over literature and social custom in the same light-handed register. Adams is better remembered for his reference compilations, which makes this glimpse of him as an essayist the more interesting. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
