About this book
The Red Watch, subtitled With the First Canadian Division in Flanders, is by Colonel J.A. Currie, M.P. The dedication is to the memory of the Canadian soldiers who fell in Flanders. The text says that in 1913, the year the writer became Commanding Officer, the King's Prize, the blue ribbon of Rifle shooting, was won at Bisley by a member of the corps, Sergeant Hawkins.
The text says the Flemings are great lovers of water, and that every farm has a series of big ditches, three to six feet wide and about five feet deep, running across it. The text says our batteries were in action along the banks and were very skilfully hidden, and that the trenches in our front were being unmercifully shelled by the Germans all the time.
