About this book
The Rose-Jar by Thomas S. Jones, Jr. is a collection of verses, dedicated "To the Memory of My Mother." The author thanks the editors of the publications in which the verses in this collection originally appeared for their kind permission to reprint. The contents list poems titled "As in a Rose-Jar", "The Island" and "You and I", among others.
The poem headed "As in a Rose-Jar" speaks of a rose-jar filled with petals sweet, and of keeping "my dust of roses fresh and dear." The poem headed "The Island" begins with an island in the silent sea whose marge the wistful waves lap listlessly. A poem headed "The Summer Rain" speaks of one who listens to the summer rain against the roof when all the night is still. A poem headed "An Old Song" has the lines "Low blowing winds from out a midnight sky, The falling embers and a kettle's croon."
