About this book
The Second Story of Meno is a continuation of Socrates' dialogue with Meno in which the boy proves root 2 is irrational. Socrates asks Meno to be on his guard to ensure that Socrates teaches nothing to the boy, but rather pulls out of the boy's mind the premises which are already there. Meno says he was humiliated by seeing this young boy, of modest education, arrive in minutes at the highest mystic levels of the magic of the Pythagoreans.
The boy recites that a number can only be odd or even if it is a whole number, and that odd numbers always have a one left over when all the twos are taken out. The boy sets out four groups of ratios: even over even, odd over even, odd over odd, and even over odd.
