About this book
The Stephens Family is a genealogy of the descendants of Joshua Stevens, written by Bascom Asbury Cecil Stephens in Los Angeles, California, A. D. 1892. The headings run from FIRST GENERATION through TENTH GENERATION.
The text says that Joshua Stephens, the ancestor of this Stephens family, was born, according to the family tradition, in what is now the County of Berkes, in the State of Pennsylvania, of Welsh parents, A. D. 1733. The text says the indifference of the Welsh in the use of surnames is well shown by the transcript of some documents of an estate of an old Stephens in Pennsylvania. One entry gives a son of Catherine (Vandever) Gaskill, born Oct. 16, 1839, at Bluffton, Allen County, Ohio, who married Aug. 29, 1861, Mary E. Hurley.
