The Water Babies
The Water Babies A Fairy Tale for a Land Baby is a children’s novel by Charles Kingsley. The book was written as part satire in support of Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species. The protagonist is Tom, a young chimney sweeper, who falls into a river after encountering an upper-class girl named Ellie and being chased out of her house.
About the Author
Charles Kingsley was a 19th-century English clergyman, historian, and novelist. He is remembered for the children’s classic The Water-Babies and the historical adventure Westward Ho!.
