Uller Uprising
On the planet Uller, a thin layer of human administrators rules millions of native Ullerans, taxing their labor and dismissing their beliefs. When a charismatic prophet turns that resentment into open revolt, the badly outnumbered Terran garrison finds itself fighting for survival. Piper modeled the uprising closely on the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, and the result is a tense study of empire, misrule, and the violence that colonial arrogance invites. The planet’s alien biochemistry was worked out in advance by a research chemist, giving Uller a convincingly non-Earthly foundation on which the human drama plays out.
