About this book

Une Vie, a Piece of String and Other Stories by Guy de Maupassant gathers stories with an introductory study of the author. The baroness has become so frail that movement requires support beneath each arm, while difficult, wheezing breathing causes a painful sensation among those nearby.

Jeanne takes the others to their room and retires to her own for a cry because she is so upset. Lormerin turns to a mirror to inspect himself and reflects that the woman he intends to dine with must look older than himself.
