What to Expect of Shakespeare is a 1911 British Academy lecture by Jean Jules Jusserand (1855-1932), the French ambassador to Washington who was equally distinguished as a literary historian of England. Jusserand, whose Literary History of the English People ran to several volumes, asks what the documents actually let us know of Shakespeare and what legend has supplied. The diplomat-scholar won the first Pulitzer Prize for history in 1917 and was a hiking companion of Theodore Roosevelt. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
