Ada Ferrer
Ferrer was born in Cuba and taken to the United States as an infant when her mother left in 1963, and did not go back until she was in her twenties, by then a historian. Cuba: An American History covers five centuries and took the Pulitzer in 2022, arguing that the two countries have been entangled since long before the revolution and that neither can be explained on its own. Freedom's Mirror, the earlier book, sets the Haitian revolution against the Cuban slave economy that expanded because of it. She teaches at New York University.
