Addison Armstrong

Addison Armstrong writes historical fiction centered on overlooked professional and social histories. The War Librarian uses two timelines, pairing a volunteer librarian working in France in 1918 with a woman entering the first coeducational class at the United States Naval Academy in 1976. The novel appeared from G. P. Putnam's Sons in 2022 and takes inspiration from the real histories of female wartime librarians and women at the academy. Armstrong studied elementary education and language and literacy at Vanderbilt, later completing a master's degree in reading education and teaching English-language learners in New York. Her first novel, The Light of Luna Park, also joined historical research to the experiences of women working within institutions. Books, teaching, and access to knowledge consequently inform both her professional background and the structure of The War Librarian.
