Alan Katz

Alan Katz writes American children's books and television comedy shaped by wordplay, quick jokes, and exaggerated family trouble. The Day the Mustache Took Over, published by Bloomsbury in 2015, begins his Mustache series and introduces twins David and Nathan. Their parents hire Martin Healey Discount after a remarkable succession of babysitters, but the stern new nanny and his enormous mustache soon prove as unruly as the boys. Katz builds the story from reversals of authority, sibling competition, and escalating household mischief. Kris Easler's black and white illustrations support the episodic humor and give the characters an energetic visual presence. The book begins the series and was Katz's debut novel after several collections of comic poetry. The Day the Mustache Took Over brings his experience writing jokes for young audiences into a longer narrative, with the twins' chaotic partnership providing both the conflict and the comic rhythm.
