Alan Moorehead was an Australian journalist, war correspondent, biographer, and writer of narrative history. Gallipoli, first published in 1956, reconstructs the First World War campaign in the Dardanelles and became one of his best-known books. A National Library of Australia study highlights its military analysis, atmosphere, and close attention to people caught in the campaign. Moorehead also wrote The White Nile and The Blue Nile, companion histories of nineteenth-century exploration. His reporting career and later historical books made him known for lucid accounts of conflict and exploration.
