Alex Paz-Goldman is an Israeli writer for children and young people whose work brings family memory into adventure fiction. Born in 1955 to Holocaust survivor parents, he studied computer science at the Technion and child and youth culture at Tel Aviv University, combining a technology career with writing. The Lost Spy and the Green Dress is his second book and was first published in Hebrew by Kinneret Zmora-Bitan in 2011. Set in Israel during the 1960s, it follows twelve-year-old Motti and his friends as their fascination with spies draws them toward a neighborhood mystery. The children's investigation gradually intersects with the guarded experiences of Motti's parents and the effects of European persecution on family life. An English edition translated by Linda Yechiel appeared from Green Bean Books in 2022. Israel's Ministry of Education recommended the novel for young readers. Paz-Goldman balances suspense and humor with a child's changing understanding of inherited history.
