Bryce Moore combines his work as a Maine librarian with writing fantasy and historical suspense for younger readers. Vodník, his debut for teens, was published by Tu Books in 2012 and draws on Slovak folklore as well as his family connection to Slovakia. The novel follows Tomas after his family returns to Trenčín, where creatures from old stories become immediate parts of his life and his Roma ancestry shapes how others treat him. Moore has explained that the project grew from visits to his wife's home country, conversations about local folktales, and an earlier idea involving Trenčín Castle. That background gives the fantasy a specific landscape and cultural framework rather than a generic supernatural setting. Vodník received the Association for Mormon Letters award for best novel for younger readers. Moore later published The Memory Thief and several historical mysteries for teen readers while continuing his library career. Vodník established his fiction through humor, folklore, family responsibility, and a protagonist learning to interpret two cultures at once.
