Alice Bell connects science history with public climate action as a British writer, historian of science, and campaigner. Our Biggest Experiment traces the climate crisis from early studies of heat and atmosphere through industrial energy systems, twentieth-century warnings, environmental politics, and present-day responses. Counterpoint published the United States edition in 2021. Bell trained in the history of science and earned a doctorate in science communication, then worked as an academic, journalist, and campaigner. She has also co-led the climate charity Possible, whose projects translate research into practical public action. Rather than treating climate knowledge as a simple march of discoveries, Bell follows overlooked researchers, changing technologies, fossil-fuel dependence, organized doubt, and the social choices surrounding energy. The result is simultaneously a history of climate science and an account of how societies learned to recognize the consequences of their own inventions.
