Alis Franklin
Alis Franklin builds queer urban fantasy from Norse myth, modern technology, and Australian corporate culture. Stormbringer continues the Wyrd sequence after Liesmith. The sequel separates Sigmund and Lain for substantial parts of its story, widening the mythology and allowing each character to confront different consequences of the identities revealed in the first book. Franklin’s world places old gods and legendary figures inside contemporary Australia, where office work, digital systems, and ancient obligations coexist. The later anthology Wyrdverse gathers additional stories from that setting, while Unnatural Order explores nonhuman perspectives in a separate collection. Stormbringer is therefore both a continuation of the central relationship in Liesmith and an expansion of the Wyrd’s supernatural politics. Franklin’s fiction uses mythology as a living structure rather than decorative background, asking how inherited stories change when their participants inhabit modern institutions and identities.
