Amity Hope places emotional uncertainty inside close-knit communities throughout her romantic and teen fiction. Twisted appeared in 2012 as an early standalone novel in her bibliography. The story follows Maya, whose attempt to understand a troubling family secret changes how she sees the people closest to her. Hope later developed several linked bodies of work, including the Rules of Persuasion books, the Truths and Dares sequence, Harmony Bay, Tainted Legacy, and Pine Creek. Those series range from school and family conflicts to small-town romance, but they repeatedly emphasize trust, loyalty, and the consequences of withheld information. Twisted introduced many of those recurring interests before her longer series became established.
