Amy Jones took the CBC Literary Award for short fiction in 2006, and her first collection, What Boys Like, won the Metcalf-Rooke Award two years after that. She grew up in Halifax, taught creative writing at Lakehead in Thunder Bay for several years, and makes her present home in Toronto. Thunder Bay is where she set her first novel, We're All in This Together, in 2016; it made the Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal shortlist the next year, and Katie Boland later wrote, directed and starred in a film of it. Every Little Piece of Me, from 2019, cuts between Ava Hart, the least willing member of a family whose attempts to run a Nova Scotia bed and breakfast are largely staged for a reality television series, and Mags Kovach, who fronts a Halifax band that keeps not quite arriving.
