Andrew Kaufman
Kaufman writes short absurdist novels that take one impossible premise entirely seriously. All My Friends Are Superheroes gives its narrator a wedding party of minor superheroes, one of whom hypnotises the groom so that his new wife becomes invisible to him alone, and runs the whole thing in about a hundred pages. Born Weird hands a dying grandmother five grandchildren she blessed at birth with gifts that each turned out to be a curse, and a deadline to gather so she can take them back. He is Canadian, worked in television and radio in Toronto, and keeps the books deliberately brief.
