Angela Misri

Angela Misri is a Canadian journalist and novelist who writes mysteries and fiction for younger readers. Jewel of the Thames opens her Portia Adams Adventures, published by Fierce Ink Press in 2014. Beginning in 1929, the novel follows nineteen-year-old Canadian Portia Adams after she inherits 221B Baker Street and learns that Dr. Watson was her grandfather. With Irene Jones as her guardian, Portia studies law in London and begins testing her deductive skills. The book arranges three separate mysteries like entries in one of Watson’s casebooks, while Portia learns the consequences of making accusations and develops a rapport with Scotland Yard constable Brian Dawes. Misri makes Portia’s growth as important as the clues, creating a young detective who extends the Sherlock Holmes tradition from a new family perspective.
