Terry has explained that she also practiced at large law firms in both cities, giving the novel’s legal setting a basis in experience. She identifies the book as women’s fiction, with the lead character’s emotional growth taking priority even when romance and humor shape the story. The Trials of Adeline Turner follows Terry’s debut, Charming Falls Apart, and continues her interest in ambitious women reconsidering the lives they have carefully arranged.
