In early 2006 Anita Moorjani was admitted to a Hong Kong hospital in a coma, four years after a Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosis she had spent most of that time treating with alternative methods rather than chemotherapy. She woke about thirty hours later describing a near-death experience, and her lymphoma went into remission over the following weeks. Dying to Be Me tells that story and draws from it a message about fear, self-love and illness. Hay House released it in March 2012, fronted by a foreword from Wayne Dyer, who had come across her account online and pushed his publisher to find her; it reached the New York Times list within a fortnight and has passed a million copies. Moorjani holds no medical or scientific qualification. Before her illness she was a corporate consultant in Hong Kong, and she now earns her living from books, paid workshops and speaking tours. Her own doctors disagreed about what caused the remission, one crediting the chemotherapy she was given in hospital, and oncologists have attacked the mind-over-matter reading as unsupported and risky for patients weighing treatment.
