Ross and Wilson has been the standard anatomy and physiology text for nursing and allied health students in Britain since 1963, and Anne Waugh has carried it as lead author with Allison Grant across the recent editions. Waugh is a registered nurse who taught at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh; Grant is a physiologist at Glasgow Caledonian. What keeps the book in use across a dozen editions and more is the pitch: it assumes no prior science, explains structure before function, and stays tied throughout to what goes wrong in illness rather than treating disease as an appendix. It is a textbook on a revision schedule rather than a work of authorship in the usual sense.
