Anthony Marra builds novels around the pressure that historical upheaval places on private loyalties, losses, and acts of reinvention. His debut, A Constellation of Vital Phenomena, received the National Book Critics Circle's John Leonard Prize and the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award. He followed it with the linked story collection The Tsar of Love and Techno.
