Beth Ball

Beth Ball writes character-led fantasy that combines court politics, elemental magic, and women confronting inherited expectations. Phoenix Rising opens the Feather & Flame series with Rowan, a young woman whose dormant fire magic and contested royal identity pull her toward a dangerous succession struggle. Ball describes the project as women-led epic fantasy with darker edges, while independent bibliographies place Phoenix Rising first in Feather & Flame. The original edition appeared in 2022; Grove Guardian Press later issued a revised edition in 2025, creating a publication-history detail that readers may encounter across listings. Ball's wider library includes the Age of Azuria books and collaborative tabletop storytelling work, evidence of her interest in shared worlds and ensemble casts. In Phoenix Rising, that world-building serves questions of agency, loyalty, and the cost of power rather than functioning as decoration. The book is therefore both an introduction to Rowan and a foundation for the broader Feather & Flame narrative, with its later edition preserving the same central series role.
