Blaine Harden
Escape from Camp 14 presented Shin Dong-hyuk as the only person born inside a North Korean total-control zone to get out. In 2015 Shin told Harden that important parts were wrong: he had spent years in a different camp, the violence he described happened at seventeen rather than thirteen, and he had informed on his mother and brother, who were put to death for it, which the first version had softened. Harden issued a revised edition carrying the corrections and an author's note about them. Shin said he had changed the account because the truth was harder to live with. Harden reported from Africa and Asia for a Washington paper for decades. The book is still read as testimony, and the corrections now travel with it.
