Brooklyn James

Brooklyn James is an author and singer-songwriter who often links narrative fiction with original music. The Boots My Mother Gave Me follows Harley LeBeau from a difficult childhood into adulthood as she tries to build an independent life without abandoning her mother, sister, and longstanding bond with Jeremiah Johnson. First published in 2010, the novel became an Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award quarter-finalist and later opened a two-book sequence completed by Sole Sister. James also created a ten-song soundtrack for the novel, using pieces such as Moving On and Jeremiah Johnson to extend its characters and themes into another medium. Her work around the book led to speaking engagements focused on family violence, crisis prevention, and recovery. James holds degrees in communication, nursing, and animal science, a background that sits alongside her creative career. The Boots My Mother Gave Me remains the clearest meeting point between her work as a novelist, musician, and public speaker.
