Author: Brother Ty
Brother Ty is not a person. He is the narrator of God Is My Broker, a failed stockbroker who joins a monastery with a collapsing wine business and discovers seven and a half laws of spiritual and financial growth, and the book is a satire of the self-help shelf written by Christopher Buckley and John Tierney. Random House published it in 1998, with the byline given as Brother Ty and the two real authors credited alongside him. The targets are the gurus who were selling certainty at the time, and the joke turns on the monastery getting rich by following advice that is obvious nonsense. Buckley, the son of William F. Buckley Jr., had already written Thank You for Smoking; Tierney was a newspaper columnist in New York. The last of the seven and a half laws is that the book you are holding is the only one you need, which tells you the register.
