Bruce Holsinger
Bruce Holsinger examines communities under pressure in his fiction. The Gifted School, published by Riverhead Books, follows parents whose Colorado town plans a selective public school. Competition over admissions strains friendships and exposes assumptions about merit, privilege, class, and family ambition. The novel won the Colorado Book Award. Holsinger also teaches at UVA and has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, experience that complements the novel's close attention to institutions and social advantage. This combination gives the domestic rivalry wider social consequence.
