C.J. Mahaney
Mahaney founded and led Sovereign Grace Ministries, a network of American evangelical churches, and Humility: True Greatness is his best-known book. In 2012 a civil lawsuit alleged the organisation had concealed the abuse of children by members and discouraged families from going to the police; most of the claims were dismissed on limitation grounds rather than on their facts, and a former youth leader was later convicted of abusing boys. Mahaney stepped aside, then returned to pastoral work at a new church. Prominent evangelical figures who had publicly backed him withdrew that support afterwards. He has denied any cover-up throughout.
